Microsoft Project Standard 2016 is a desktop project-management application for planning tasks, building timelines, assigning resources and monitoring progress. It is designed for individuals and teams that manage projects locally without needing the enterprise collaboration features of Microsoft Project Professional. Users can create task lists, set dependencies, define milestones, work with Gantt charts, set project calendars and review workload information to help keep a plan on track. Project Standard 2016 is a perpetual installed-software licence rather than a Microsoft 365 subscription, allowing the activated application to continue running without recurring renewal. However, it is now a legacy product. Microsoft ended support for Project 2016 on 14 October 2025, so it no longer receives security updates, bug fixes or technical support.
