Office Home & Business 2021 for Mac is Microsoft's perpetual desktop Office suite for macOS, licensed as a one-time purchase rather than a subscription. It includes classic versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote installed on a single Mac, with rights for both personal and commercial use.
This edition was optimised for Apple hardware, running well on both Intel-based Macs and Apple Silicon chips, and it includes a refreshed interface designed to match macOS conventions more closely. It also added collaboration features such as real-time co-authoring, Microsoft Teams basics, and OneDrive integration for accessing files across devices, along with support for Mac-specific features like Handoff and Continuity Camera.
Compared with Office Home and Student 2021, this edition adds Outlook for managing email, calendars, contacts, and tasks, along with commercial use rights, making it suitable for small business owners and self-employed professionals rather than only students and home users. It sits below Office 2021 Professional Plus, which is Windows-only and adds Access and Publisher for larger organisations.
The licence is tied to a Microsoft account rather than the specific device, so reinstalling after replacing a Mac is generally possible. It suits users who want modern desktop Office apps with commercial usage rights and no ongoing subscription cost, understanding that it only receives security updates rather than new feature updates over time.
