X4: Foundations is a space trading and combat simulation developed and published by German studio Egosoft, released on November 30, 2018. It continues the long-running X series that includes X Rebirth, and it puts you behind the controls of a single ship in a universe where every faction trades, builds and wages war on its own schedule.
The core loop scales with your ambition. You can fly and fight in real time, haul goods between stations, or claim plots of space and build modular stations that feed your own economy. As your income grows, you hand ships to automated pilots, form fleets and give strategic orders from the map. The simulated economy keeps running with or without you, so supply shortages and wars between factions shape the markets you trade in. Egosoft has supported the game with free updates and several paid expansions, and Steam Workshop support opens it up to a large modding community.
An X4: Foundations CD key suits players who want a slow-burn sandbox in the vein of Elite Dangerous, but with deep empire building and station design on top of cockpit flight. Find full details on the official Steam page.
Start Small, Grow Big: Begin with a single ship and work your way up to commanding fleets, stations and trade empires.
Fully Simulated Economy: Every station, freighter and factory takes part in a living economy that reacts to wars, shortages and your own actions.

Real-Time Combat and Fleet Command: Fly any ship yourself in direct combat or issue strategic orders to whole fleets from the map.
Faction Diplomacy and War: Factions expand and fight independently, and you can stir up conflict or broker peace through subterfuge and diplomacy.
Steam Workshop and Mods: Workshop support and an active modding scene add new content, tools and tweaks.
Ongoing Expansions: Egosoft continues to release major updates and paid expansions that add new sectors, factions and ships.
