What is Sid Meier's Civilization VI: Gathering Storm?

Gathering Storm is the second expansion for Sid Meier's Civilization VI, developed by Firaxis Games and published by 2K. It arrived on Steam in February 2019 for Windows, Mac and Linux, and later came to PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch. Where the earlier Rise and Fall expansion focused on loyalty and golden ages, Gathering Storm turns the map itself into an active force.

Volcanoes erupt, floods and droughts hit river valleys, and storms such as blizzards, sandstorms, tornadoes and hurricanes sweep across the land. Disasters can pillage districts and improvements, but they can also leave fertile soil behind. Strategic resources like coal and oil are now burned in power plants to keep advanced buildings running, and those choices raise global temperatures, melt ice caps and lift sea levels. Engineering projects, including canals, dams, tunnels and railroads, let you reshape terrain to cope. Diplomacy gains a World Congress where civilizations vote on global issues, along with a new Diplomatic Victory. The expansion also adds eight civilizations, nine leaders and seven world wonders.

It is the essential add-on for players who want the most complete Civ VI ruleset. A Sid Meier's Civilization VI: Gathering Storm CD key requires the base game on the same account.
