Mafia: Definitive Edition is a full remake of the original 2002 Mafia, rebuilt from the ground up by Hangar 13 and published by 2K on September 24, 2020. It retells part one of the Mafia crime saga with new visuals, an expanded story, reworked gameplay and a re-recorded original score. Critics gave it a Metacritic score of 78 on PC.
The setting is Lost Heaven, a fictional 1930s American city during Prohibition. After a chance run-in with the mob, cab driver Tommy Angelo is pulled into the Salieri crime family. What starts as a single favor turns into a career of robberies, hits and car chases, and Tommy slowly learns what loyalty to the family costs. The game plays as a linear, chapter-based third-person action adventure with cover shooting, melee fights and period cars, so it feels closer to a mob film than a sandbox.
It suits players who want a focused, story-first crime game and a natural starting point before Mafia II and Mafia III: Definitive Edition. Owning it also unlocks Tommy's suit and cab in both of those Definitive Editions. A Mafia: Definitive Edition CD key activates on Steam and adds the game to your library permanently. Full details are on the official Mafia website.
