Developed by Upstream Arcade and published by Raw Fury, West of Dead stands out in the roguelike genre for its methodical, cover-based combat. Unlike the chaotic "bullet hell" style of many twin-stick shooters, this game rewards patience and tactical positioning. You must duck behind cover, time your reloads, and use the environment to outmaneuver outlaws and supernatural horrors. The game's world is procedurally generated, meaning every descent into the grim world of Purgatory, Wyoming, offers a new layout of dark tunnels and eerie saloons. Its narrative is delivered through Perlman’s gravelly, atmospheric narration, creating a high-stakes supernatural western experience.
Tactical Cover-Based Combat: Utilize a unique cover system where you must manage shield health and reload timing while dodging enemy fire.
Striking Cel-Shaded Visuals: A bold, high-contrast art style inspired by graphic novels that emphasizes deep shadows and glowing light sources.
Iconic Voice Acting: Experience the journey through the voice of Ron Perlman (Hellboy, Fallout), whose narration adds weight and gravitas to every encounter.
Procedural Purgatory: No two runs are the same; explore evolving landscapes filled with secret rooms, traders, and mysterious altars.
Dynamic Lighting: Use lanterns to stun enemies caught in the dark, turning the environment itself into a weapon.
Deep Arsenal: Discover and upgrade a wide variety of period-accurate weaponry, including revolvers, rifles, and shotguns, each with distinct handling and stats.
