Way of the Hunter is an open-world hunting simulation developed by Nine Rocks Games and published by THQ Nordic. It released on August 16, 2022 for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S, and it focuses on realistic animal behavior and ethical hunting.

You take over a hunting lodge and explore two large reserves, the Pacific Northwest in the USA and Transylvania in Europe. Each map covers about 144 square kilometers, and you can travel on foot or by car while tracking animals through forests, valleys and open fields.

The game's animal herds react to your presence, wind direction and noise, and populations change over time based on what you hunt. Tools such as track and blood trail analysis, a rewindable bullet camera and realistic ballistics help you learn each shot. Hunter Sense highlights useful clues, or you can switch it off and customize the HUD for a harder experience.

An in-game economy lets you sell meat to buy new rifles, optics and hunting passes, with licensed gear from brands like Leupold, Remington and Steyr Arms. A trophy system generates unique antlers and horns based on each animal's age and fitness, and a 24-hour day and night cycle with changing weather keeps outings varied.

A story campaign follows a young hunter at the family lodge, while free hunting lets you play at your own pace. Online co-op lets friends share a reserve. It suits players who want a slower, realistic hunting game rather than an arcade shooter.
