Torment: Tides of Numenera is a story-focused RPG developed by inXile Entertainment and published by Techland Publishing. The game serves as the spiritual successor to the legendary Planescape: Torment and takes place in Monte Cook’s Numenera universe.

Players take control of the “Last Castoff,” a being abandoned by the immortal Changing God in the mysterious Ninth World — a far-future Earth built upon the ruins of countless ancient civilizations whose advanced technologies appear almost magical.

Unlike traditional combat-heavy RPGs, Torment: Tides of Numenera emphasizes dialogue, exploration, role-playing, and meaningful decision-making. Conversations, morality systems called “Tides,” and narrative consequences heavily influence the story and how characters react to the player.

The game is widely praised for its imaginative world-building, philosophical storytelling, surreal environments, and complex writing. Community discussions often describe it as one of the most text-heavy and cerebral modern CRPGs.
