Tiamat X is a side-scrolling shoot 'em up developed and published by BBQ Games. It was released on PC through Steam on May 29, 2015, and is designed as a tribute to classic arcade space shooters. Its horizontal scrolling, power-up system, and score chasing recall the shmups once found in busy arcades.

The evil Choazid Empire has attacked your homeworld and is turning captured underground creatures into biomechanical monsters. You pilot an X-class Tiamat dragonship prototype, one of the last fighters left, to stop them.

Gameplay focuses on dodging and shooting through six levels. Your ship grows stronger as you collect upgrade caches, so survival depends on picking them up while avoiding heavy enemy fire. The biomechs created by the Choazids fill the screen, so learning attack patterns is as important as quick reflexes. Because there are only six stages, the game is easy to pick up for a quick session and replay for a better score.

Players who want a more relaxed experience can use the accessibility options, which include auto fire, hold-to-fire quick fire, and a color blind filter. The game is single-player and adds Steam Achievements, Leaderboards, and Trading Cards. Full controller support is included, and the developer recommends playing with an Xbox 360 or DirectInput compatible controller. A good set of speakers or headphones also helps you enjoy the original soundtrack.

It suits players who enjoy short, arcade-style shmups and want a low-cost retro shooter that runs on almost any PC.
