Thronebreaker: The Witcher Tales is a story-driven role-playing game developed and published by CD PROJEKT RED. It launched on PC on October 23, 2018, followed by PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in December 2018 and Nintendo Switch in January 2020.

You follow Meve, the war-veteran queen of Lyria and Rivia, as a Nilfgaardian invasion forces her back onto the battlefield. The campaign covers about 30 hours, and decisions along the way shape the fate of your army and the world, with 20 possible end states.

Exploration happens on illustrated world maps where you gather resources, meet characters and trigger events. Combat and many puzzles use Gwent-style card battles. You build an army deck from units recruited during the story, and many fights add special rules or win conditions.

Between battles you manage your camp, upgrade units and keep morale in mind, since harsh choices can cost you loyal companions. Thronebreaker is a single-player game. Its writing and voice acting come from developers who worked on The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

It suits Witcher fans, card game players and anyone who enjoys a dark fantasy story with meaningful choices. No knowledge of the main Witcher games is needed, since the story stands on its own.
