The Surge is a sci-fi action RPG developed by Deck13 Interactive and published by Focus Entertainment.
Set in a dystopian future, players control Warren, a new employee at the megacorporation CREO, whose first day at work turns into a nightmare after a catastrophic event causes machines and cybernetically enhanced workers to become hostile. Equipped with a powerful industrial exoskeleton, players must fight their way through a devastated industrial complex while uncovering the truth behind the disaster.
The Surge is heavily inspired by Soulslike gameplay, emphasizing stamina management, precise combat timing, challenging enemies, and punishing difficulty. Its most unique feature is the limb-targeting and dismemberment system, allowing players to selectively attack enemy body parts to obtain specific weapons, armor pieces, and crafting materials.
The game received praise for its dark sci-fi atmosphere, rewarding combat system, and innovative loot mechanics, with many players highlighting the dismemberment system as one of the most original features in the Soulslike genre.
