The Quiet Man is a story-driven action game published by Square Enix and co-developed with Human Head Studios. It launched on November 1, 2018, for PC and PlayStation 4. The story plays out over a single night, as Dane, a deaf man, fights through the city to find out why a masked figure kidnapped a songstress and what the abductor wants.
The game blends high-production live-action video, realistic CG cutscenes and third-person combat into one continuous sequence. Its defining idea is sound: because you experience the world as Dane does, most audio is muffled or missing and most scenes show no subtitles. You piece the plot together from faces, body language and context, so each player can read the story a little differently. Combat is a close-quarters brawler with punch and kick combos, grabs, throws, environmental slams and split-second dodges, choreographed by Tatsuro Koike, known for directing action in the Yakuza series.
The campaign is short and built to be finished in one sitting, which makes a discounted The Quiet Man CD key a low-cost way to try an unusual experiment in cinematic game design. It suits players curious about FMV-style storytelling and arcade-style beat-'em-up fights.
