Lords of the Fallen is a medieval dark fantasy action role-playing game developed by Hexworks and published by CI Games. This is an all-new reboot of the original 2014 game, set 1,000 years after the events of the first title. The game world is over five times larger than the original, with full character customization.
In this expansive RPG, you embark on an epic quest across the vast, interconnected land of Mournstead. Your mission is to overthrow Adyr, the demon God, whose resurrection draws near aeons after his initial defeat. The game features a unique dual-realm premise where you journey through two parallel worlds: Axiom (the realm of the living) and Umbral (the realm of the dead).
The core gameplay revolves around fast, fluid, and aggressive combat where every strike counts. You can choose from hundreds of unique weapons ranging from heavy flails to rapid-fire crossbows, or use devastating arcane magic instead. The game includes colossal boss battles that test your skill, grit, and unyielding will.
A key feature is the Umbral Lamp, a powerful artifact that allows you to pass between the living and dead realms. Each realm has its own pathways, secrets, treasures, and nightmarish creatures. Inaccessible areas in one realm may be reached by visiting the other, making exploration deeply rewarding.
The game offers a two-life system: when you die in Axiom, you're transported to Umbral for a second chance. If you die again in Umbral, you respawn back in Axiom at your last save point and lose unspent experience points called Vigor.
At the start, you personalize your character's appearance and choose from nine varied character classes. You develop your own playstyle by upgrading stats and weapons. The campaign can be completed alone or with another player in online co-op, with both casual and full shared progression options available.
Lords of the Fallen has received over 70 post-launch updates, including version 2.0, which revamped the combat system, improved performance, and added new questlines and modes. Version 2.5 is now out with deadlier boss battles and all-new Veteran Mode.
