The Last Guardian is an action adventure puzzle game developed by genDESIGN and Japan Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. It was released on December 6, 2016 for PlayStation 4 and can also be played on PlayStation 5 through backward compatibility.

The game was directed by Fumito Ueda, the creator of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. You play as a young boy who wakes up in a mysterious ruined valley next to Trico, a huge creature that is part bird, part cat, and part dog.

Progress depends on the bond between the two. You climb, explore, and solve environmental puzzles, while Trico helps you reach high ledges, cross gaps, and deal with hostile guards. Trico does not always follow orders right away, so learning to read its behavior is part of the challenge.

The Last Guardian is a single-player story with no online modes. Its focus is on atmosphere, quiet moments, and an emotional story told mostly through actions rather than dialogue. The relationship with Trico grows over the course of the adventure, and that bond is the emotional heart of the game. Small gestures, such as calming Trico or feeding it, slowly build trust between the two.

Some camera and control quirks are part of the experience, as Trico's movement feels like a real animal. It suits players who enjoy slow-paced adventures, puzzle platforming, and games built around a strong companion character.
