The Last Case of Benedict Fox is a 2D Metroidvania adventure developed and published by Plot Twist. It released on April 27, 2023 for PC and Xbox Series X|S, and the Definitive Edition followed on PlayStation 5 on March 26, 2024.

You explore a large, interconnected world, unlock new movement abilities and return to earlier areas to reach places you could not access before. Along the way, you fight demons, monsters and cultists and solve elaborate puzzles that guard key clues.

The hook is your demon companion. Benedict is bound to it, and that bond lets him enter the minds of the recently deceased. Inside, memories, emotions and traumas take physical form, and combat rewards combining weapons, demon powers and the environment rather than button mashing.

The story takes place in a decaying mansion where a young couple has been murdered and their child has disappeared. As a self-proclaimed detective, Benedict uncovers secret organizations and forbidden rituals in a Lovecraftian setting inspired by noir pulp fiction and early 20th-century jazz. It is a single-player game.

The game suits players who enjoy Metroidvanias, dark mysteries and a distinctive Burton-esque art style, especially those who like puzzle solving as much as combat and enjoy piecing together a story from scattered clues.
