The Forgotten City is a narrative mystery adventure developed by Modern Storyteller and published by Dear Villagers. It was released on July 28, 2021 for PC, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One, with a cloud version on Nintendo Switch arriving later that year. The game grew out of a popular Skyrim mod by the same creator.

You discover the ruins of an underground city and are sent 2,000 years into the past, into the last days of a Roman settlement. The city lives under a strange law: if one person sins, everyone dies. Your goal is to find out who destroyed the city and whether its fate can be changed.

The time loop is the core mechanic. When things go wrong, you return to the start of the day with everything you have learned. You can use that knowledge to question residents, prevent crimes, unlock new paths, and set up outcomes that were impossible on earlier loops.

Combat is possible but rarely the best answer. Most problems are solved through conversation, persuasion, bribery, intimidation, or clever use of the loop. The city is built with historically inspired art, architecture, and customs, and the story branches into multiple endings based on your moral choices.

The Forgotten City is a single-player game. It suits fans of mysteries, time loop stories, and choice-driven adventures who enjoy talking and thinking more than fighting.
