The Exit 8 is a short first-person walking simulator developed by KOTAKE CREATE and published by PLAYISM. It was released on PC on November 29, 2023, followed by Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5 in 2024, Xbox Series X|S in January 2025, and a Nintendo Switch 2 Edition in August 2025.

You are trapped in an endless underground passageway inspired by Japanese subway corridors. The rules are simple and posted on a sign: if you see an anomaly, turn back; if you see none, keep going. Choose correctly and the exit number goes up. Make a mistake and you are sent back to the start.

The challenge comes from observation. Posters, doors, lights, and passersby can change in subtle or unsettling ways, and you have to notice every difference to reach Exit 8. The tension builds from the liminal setting rather than combat. There are no enemies to fight and no items to collect, so success depends entirely on attention and memory.

A typical playthrough takes about 15 to 60 minutes, depending on how sharp your eyes are. Options such as camera shake, motion blur, and camera acceleration can be adjusted in the settings to reduce motion sickness.

It suits players who enjoy short, memorable horror-adjacent puzzles, liminal spaces, and spot-the-difference challenges. Its viral popularity also led to a live-action film adaptation.
