What is The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth?

The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth is a DLC expansion for The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, the randomly generated action shooter with roguelike elements from Edmund McMillen and Nicalis. It released on Steam on October 30, 2015, for Windows, macOS and Linux, and holds a Metacritic score of 85. You need Rebirth on the same Steam account to play it.

The core loop stays the same: Isaac escapes into the basement, fights through randomly generated rooms and finds items that change his appearance and abilities. Afterbirth expands almost every part of that loop. It adds Greed Mode, a risk-and-reward mode built around waves and shops, a new final area with a new final boss, daily runs with online leaderboards and 10 new challenges. The content list includes 120 new items that push the total past 500, more than 1,000 new room designs, eight new bosses, four alternate chapters and Lilith as a new playable character. There is also an alternate soundtrack and local co-op support.

A The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth CD key is aimed at Rebirth owners who want more runs, more secrets and a harder endgame. Later expansions, Afterbirth+ and Repentance, build on it and are sold separately. See the official Binding of Isaac site for the series.
