Sonic Colors: Ultimate is a remastered version of the 2010 platformer Sonic Colors, developed by Blind Squirrel Entertainment and published by SEGA. It launched in September 2021 on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch, and the Steam release followed in February 2023. Dr. Eggman has built a giant interstellar amusement park and is powering it with captured aliens called Wisps, so Sonic sets out to free them.
The game moves between 3D boost sections and 2D platforming across six themed worlds such as Sweet Mountain and Aquarium Park. Wisps act as power-ups that transform Sonic, open alternate routes and help defeat enemies. The remaster adds the Jade Wisp, which lets Sonic pass through solid objects, plus the Rival Rush mode where you race Metal Sonic to unlock rewards, along with updated visuals and customization options. If you want more classic Sonic after this, Sonic Generations and the open-zone Sonic Frontiers are both worth a look.
