Outward is a survival RPG developed by Canadian studio Nine Dots Studio and released in March 2019. It casts you as an ordinary traveler, not a chosen hero, in the land of Aurai. Beyond fighting bandits and creatures, you manage hunger, thirst, sleep, body temperature and infections from wounds. The weather can kill you as surely as a predator, so every expedition between cities starts with packing the right food, water and gear.

Spellcasting follows a ritualistic, step-by-step process, the game saves constantly so you live with every decision, and defeat triggers dynamic scenarios instead of a simple reload. You can explore solo, with a friend in local split-screen, or online. The Definitive Edition, published by Prime Matter and Deep Silver in May 2022, folds in The Soroboreans and The Three Brothers DLCs, adds the city-building project to rebuild Sirocco, an enchantment system with more than 85 recipes, and quality-of-life fixes.
