Outer Wilds is an exploration-heavy action-adventure game where the only thing that changes between runs is your own knowledge. You are a Hearthian astronaut launched into a solar system filled with ruins left by the Nomai, an ancient and mysterious race. Every 22 minutes, the sun explodes, and you wake up back at the campfire on your home planet. You must use your ship, your jetpack, and a variety of tools to investigate shifting landscapes—like a planet that crumbles into a black hole or twins that trade sand back and forth—to solve the mystery of the universe.
Knowledge-Based Progression: There are no XP bars or weapon upgrades. The "keys" to new areas are the things you learn and the secrets you uncover.
Dynamic Time-Loop System: Planets evolve and change in real-time throughout the 22-minute cycle, meaning some locations are only accessible at specific times.
Seamless Space Exploration: Hop into your rickety ship and fly from the surface of one planet to another with no loading screens and realistic Newtonian physics.
Archeological Mystery: Use a translation tool to decipher Nomai writings, piecing together a story that spans millennia.
Atmospheric Soundtrack: Experience an award-winning score by Andrew Prahlow that perfectly captures the wonder and loneliness of space.
