Mina the Hollower is a top-down 2D action-adventure game with vintage 8-bit visuals styled like Game Boy Color games, refined for modern consoles. You control Mina, a renowned Hollower, hurled into a desperate mission to rescue the cursed Tenebrous Isle after a shipwreck.
The game features Mina's unique burrow ability – she digs underground to dodge monsters, uncover hidden treasures, leap over gaps, and access elevated areas. Your basic attack is a trusty whip called Nightstar that slashes foes, cuts grass, and destroys barriers. Beyond the whip, you gear up with an arsenal of sidearms (sub-weapons) and trinkets that give exotic combat effects.
Mina the Hollower offers a huge, dark world with over 1,200 intricately detailed screens, beastly bosses, interconnected level design, and a Victorian Gothic horror story. Progression lets you level Mina up, increase health, and combine weapons for your unique playstyle. Death drops a marker with your upgrade currency – you must battle back to reclaim it, adding Dark Souls-inspired tension.
The game delivers 20 hours of engaging gameplay with clever puzzles, varied combat, hidden secrets, bizarre characters, and an electrifying 8-bit soundtrack by Jake Kaufman. It's ideal for fans of Link's Awakening, Castlevania, Hollow Knight, and classic handheld adventures.
