Middle-earth: Shadow of War is an open-world action RPG developed by Monolith Productions and published by WB Games. Released in October 2017, it is the sequel to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. You again play Talion, a Ranger of Gondor bound to the wraith of the Elf lord Celebrimbor. Together they forge a new Ring of Power and take the fight to Sauron and his Ringwraiths across Mordor.
The centerpiece is the Nemesis System. Orc captains remember your encounters, gain new strengths and scars, and rise through the ranks on their own. You can dominate captains and recruit them as followers, then send them to infiltrate enemy ranks or lead your forces. Each region has a Fortress you can siege with your own army, then defend once you hold it. Combat blends melee counters, archery, stealth takedowns and wraith abilities, with a skill tree and gear system that let you tune Talion's build.
Fans of Tolkien's world who also enjoy The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria will find a very different, combat-heavy take on Middle-earth here. A Middle-earth: Shadow of War CD key often sells well below launch price. See the official Steam page for current content and editions.
Expanded Nemesis System: Orc captains remember every fight, adapt to your tactics, and build personal rivalries or loyalties that shape your playthrough.
Build Your Own Army: Dominate orc captains and recruit them as followers, bodyguards or spies inside enemy ranks.
Fortress Sieges: Assault Fortresses with your assembled army, then appoint overlords and defend your holdings against counterattacks.
Open-World Mordor: Explore distinct regions of Mordor, each with its own Fortress, captains and side activities.
New Ring of Power: Talion and Celebrimbor wield a newly forged Ring, combining Ranger combat with wraith abilities.
Deep Progression: Unlock skills, equip gear sets and customize Talion's abilities to fit melee, ranged or stealth play.
Story Expansions: The Blade of Galadriel and Desolation of Mordor expansions add new campaigns, sold in the Story Expansion Pass or the Definitive Edition.
