Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is a third-person action adventure developed by Eidos-Montréal and published by Square Enix. It was released on October 26, 2021 for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, with a cloud version on Nintendo Switch.
You play as Peter Quill, better known as Star-Lord, alongside Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot. The story is an original take on the team rather than a film adaptation. A risky money-making scheme goes wrong and pulls the crew into a cosmic conflict involving a powerful religious movement, with plenty of banter between every fight.
In combat, Star-Lord fights directly with his Element Blaster, jet-boot kicks, and gadgets, while the other Guardians act on their own. You can order each teammate to use special abilities, combine attacks, and stagger tougher enemies. The Huddle system lets you rally the team mid-fight with a quick pep talk, often backed by an 1980s soundtrack.
Dialogue choices shape conversations and lead to different reactions and moments across the story. Between battles you explore colorful alien worlds, solve light puzzles with your teammates' help, find collectibles, and unlock outfits and upgrades at the workbench. The game is single-player only.
It suits players who enjoy cinematic, character-driven adventures, Marvel stories, humor, and accessible action that does not require fast reflexes to enjoy.
