Marvel's Avengers is an action-adventure game developed by Crystal Dynamics in collaboration with Eidos-Montréal, originally published by Square Enix (with Crystal Dynamics taking over publishing duties from 2022 until the game's discontinuation in 2023). Played from a third-person perspective, it centers on a cinematic single-player campaign called "Reassemble," in which teenage superhero fan Kamala Khan (who later becomes Ms. Marvel) works to reunite the disbanded Avengers—including Captain America, Iron Man, Thor, Hulk, and Black Widow—following a disastrous public event, A-Day, that led to the destruction of San Francisco and the framing of the team for the tragedy.wikipedia+4

Beyond the story campaign, the game features an ongoing multiplayer component called the Avengers Initiative (Warzone missions), where teams of up to four players complete mission-based content around the world using their own customised AI teams or with friends online, unlocking new gear, XP, and hero abilities. Unlike Insomniac's open-world Marvel's Spider-Man, Avengers is structured as a linear, mission-based action-adventure akin to titles like Uncharted, with the campaign's main "Hero Missions" remaining strictly single-player and character-locked, while side "Warzone" missions can be tackled solo or cooperatively. Crystal Dynamics originally committed to a multi-year live-service roadmap of free post-launch content, adding playable heroes such as Kate Bishop, Spider-Man (PlayStation exclusive), Black Panther, Hawkeye, and War Machine, along with new story campaigns and Warzones, before ending live support in 2023. Buyers comparing a Marvel's Avengers CD key should note that while the servers supporting multiplayer content may have reduced live-service updates following its 2023 sunset, the single-player Reassemble campaign remains fully playable offline.
