Legend of Mana is the HD remaster of the Mana series action RPG first released on the original PlayStation. Square Enix published the remaster on June 24, 2021, with M2 Co., Ltd. as co-developer, on PC through Steam, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch. You set off to find the mystical Mana Tree from a dream, only to discover that the world map of Fa'Diel is empty.
The hook is the Land Make system. As you travel you collect artifacts, and you place each one anywhere on the map to spawn a town or dungeon and unlock new story threads. The order and position you choose shape what you find next. Combat is real-time: you equip weapons, armor and accessories and fight monsters across a hand-painted world. The remaster adds a rearranged soundtrack you can swap with the original music, an option to turn off enemy encounters, and Ring Ring Land, a mini-game previously unreleased in the West.
It is a good pick for players who enjoy non-linear, episodic RPGs and collecting side quests rather than one long main plot. Series fans can also look at the remake of Secret of Mana or the newer Visions of Mana. A discounted Legend of Mana CD key is the cheapest way to add this classic to your Steam library.
