Immortals of Aveum is a first-person shooter built around spellcasting, developed by Ascendant Studios and published by Electronic Arts. It released on August 22, 2023 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, and was built on Unreal Engine 5.

You play as Jak, a young man who discovers he can use magic and joins the Immortals, an order of battlemages fighting in a long war called the Everwar. Instead of guns, you fire spells from your hands.

Combat uses three types of magic. Blue magic is precise and long range, red magic hits hard at close range, and green magic fires fast, tracking shots. Switching between them and adding control spells such as lash and limpets is central to every fight.

The game is a story-driven single-player campaign with no multiplayer. Between battles, you explore regions, solve environmental puzzles, upgrade gear, and unlock talents in a skill tree.

Levels mix open combat arenas with quieter exploration sections. Hidden chests and side areas reward players who look around, and many puzzles ask you to use your spells to activate mechanisms or reveal hidden paths.

It suits players who want a linear, cinematic shooter with a fantasy twist, and fans of fast first-person combat who want something different from firearms.
