Developed by Blackbird Interactive and published by Gearbox, Homeworld 3 is a true 3D real-time strategy game where positioning in three-dimensional space is everything. Set decades after Homeworld 2, the hyperspace gate network is failing, and a dark force known as the Incarnate threatens the galaxy.
As of May 2026, the game has matured through several major updates and the Year One Pass. The latest content includes the Taiidan Empire and Somtaaw (Beastslayers) factions for the popular War Games mode—a co-op roguelike experience where players take on randomized combat challenges to unlock powerful artifacts and ship upgrades. While the story is more focused and intimate than previous entries, the scale of the battles among derelict hulks and particle storms remains unparalleled in the genre.
Megalithic Warfare: Use hulking space derelicts as cover or terrain to funnel enemies into ambushes, adding a new layer of strategy to the classic 3D movement.
Fully Simulated Ballistics: Line of sight and cover are critical; shots can be blocked by terrain or missed entirely based on physics.
War Games Mode: A 3-player co-op roguelike mode that extends gameplay beyond the campaign with randomized fleet challenges and persistent progression.
Stunning Scale: Modern graphics technology brings incredible detail to ship hulls, from battle scars that linger across missions to spectacular explosions that ripple through the vacuum.
Persistent Fleet: Your units carry over from mission to mission, meaning the veterancy of your pilots and the damage to your Mothership matter throughout the campaign.
