HELLDIVERS 2 is a fast-paced, squad-based shooter where you join a team of up to four players and battle across alien planets. You are a Helldiver, an elite super-soldier sent to spread "Managed Democracy" by wiping out dangerous alien factions threatening Super Earth.
The game features three major enemy factions: the Terminids (bugs), the Automatons (robots), and the Illuminates (squids). Each mission drops your squad onto a different planet where you complete objectives, destroy enemy bases, and extract safely, all within a 15 to 40-minute session.
What makes Helldivers 2 stand out is its Stratagem system, special tools you call down from orbit, including airstrikes, turrets, shield generators, and heavy weapons. Friendly fire is always active, which adds a hilarious and chaotic edge to teamwork. As a live-service game, it receives regular updates with new planets, story events, gear, and seasonal content.
Third-person co-op gameplay for up to 4 players: Fight alongside your squad in fast, intense battles across alien planets. Control your Helldiver from a third-person perspective, giving you full visibility of enemies, terrain, and your teammates.
Crossplay Support between PC (Steam) and PS5: Team up with friends regardless of their platform. PC players on Steam and PlayStation 5 users can join the same squad seamlessly with no barriers between platforms.
Stratagem System Call in Powerful Orbital Drops: Use unique codes to summon devastating weapons and gear from orbit. Stratagems include cluster bombs, napalm airstrikes, sentry guns, shield generators, flare shoots for resupply, and heavy weapon pods. Each Stratagem has a specific code you throw on the ground to activate it.
Three Massive Enemy Factions to Battle: Face three distinct threats across the galaxy:
Terminids: Insect-like bugs that swarm in huge numbers and nest underground.
Automatons: Robotic soldiers with heavy armor and organized tactics.
Illuminates: Squid-like alien beings with psychic abilities and stealth tactics.
Live-service Game with Regular Free Content Updates: The game receives constant updates, including new planets, seasonal story events, new weapons, armor sets, helmets, boosters, and warbonds. The galactic war evolves based on community actions, making every player's contribution meaningful.
Deep Progression System with Unlockable Gear: Earn merit points and in-game currency to unlock weapons, armor plates, helmets, shield upgrades, and boosters. As you complete missions and level up, you gain access to more powerful equipment and customization options.
Warbond System for Exclusive Rewards: Purchase Warbonds using in-game currency to unlock exclusive cosmetic items, weapon blueprints, armor patterns, and special boosters. Warbonds are seasonal content packs that refresh regularly with new rewards.
Dynamic galactic war influenced by the entire community: The game features a living, evolving map where billions of missions across the world determine which planets are liberated or lost. Your actions directly impact the outcome of the war, creating a shared community experience.
Solo Play fully supported: While designed for co-op, you can tackle all missions alone if you prefer. Solo play is challenging but completely viable, giving you the freedom to play at your own pace.
Multiple Mission Types and Objectives: Complete diverse mission objectives, including:
Raising flags on enemy territory
Destroying enemy bases and superfor cities
Freeing prisoners from captivity
Escorting VIPs safely
Scanning alien samples
Defending positions against massive assaults
Weapon Customization and Upgrade System: Upgrade your weapons with different attachments, barrels, ammunition types, and mods. Tailor your arsenal to counter specific enemy types, for example, using incendiary weapons against bugs or explosive rounds against robots.
Rated M for Mature Audiences: The ESRB rates Helldivers 2 as M for Mature due to Blood and Gore, along with Intense Violence. The game features graphic combat, alien dismemberment, and explosive action suitable for players 17 and older.
Chaotic Friendly Fire always Enabled: Friendly fire is permanently active, meaning your teammates can accidentally (or intentionally) hurt you with stray bullets, explosions, or airstrikes. This adds hilarious chaos and forces careful teamwork and positioning.
Fast 15–40 Minute Mission Sessions: Each mission is designed to be completed in 15 to 40 minutes, making it perfect for quick gaming sessions or longer play stretches. Missions are intense but not overwhelming, allowing you to jump in and out easily.
Multiple Difficulty Levels for All Skill Levels: Choose from difficulty tiers ranging from Trivial to Helldive, allowing beginners to learn the game while experts can challenge themselves with harder enemies, tougher objectives, and increased rewards.
Armor System with Real-world Firearm Inspiration: The game's armor system is designed based on real firearms fired against armored targets, giving you realistic protection levels and strategic choices about balancing defense vs. mobility.
