Hell is Us is a third-person action-adventure game set in the 1990s, inside a fictional, isolated country called Hadea. You play as Rémi, a United Nations peacekeeper who goes AWOL to return to Hadea, find his missing family, and uncover the truth behind a catastrophic event known as the Calamity.

The game is built on Unreal Engine 5 and features a visually stunning semi-open world filled with diverse biomes, calm forests, ruined towns, and dark dungeons. What makes it truly stand out is its "Player Plattering" philosophy; there are no quest markers, no mini-map objectives, and no hand-holding. You navigate the world by reading clues, talking to NPCs, and paying close attention to your surroundings.

Combat is deep but accessible. You can use axes, swords, and polearms, and upgrade your weapons through an emotion-based affinity system tied to themes like sorrow, anger, and joy. You also have a drone companion with unique attacks and debuffs to help in battle. Unlike Dark Souls or Elden Ring, the game is more forgiving with its difficulty while still delivering a tense and satisfying combat experience.

Hell is Us blends action RPG, detective work, puzzle-solving, and exploration, making it feel like a darker, more mature take on The Legend of Zelda. It was released on September 4, 2025, for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
