GRADIUS ORIGINS is a side-scrolling shooter collection published by Konami and produced with retro specialist M2. It released in August 2025 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.

The collection covers seven arcade titles in 18 versions: Gradius, Salamander, Life Force, Gradius II, Gradius III, Salamander 2 and the new Salamander III, with Japanese, North American and European variants where they exist. Gradius III AM Show Version appears on home platforms for the first time.

The headline addition is Salamander III, a brand-new entry in the series built in the classic arcade style. Its arrival makes this more than a simple re-release for longtime fans. The Gradius games themselves use the series' famous power-up bar, where collecting capsules lets you choose speed boosts, missiles, lasers and the Option drones that follow your ship and copy its fire. Choosing upgrades in the right order is a core part of every run.

Modern features make the old games easier to learn. Save states, rewind, an Invincible Mode and a Training Mode let you adjust restart points, loops and power-ups, while a gallery holds music and artwork. Some titles support two-player simultaneous play on the same machine, which suits couch sessions with a friend.

It suits shoot 'em up fans, retro collectors, and newcomers who want to try classic arcade shooters with helpful assist options instead of relying on quarters and memorization.
