Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising was a highly anticipated MMORPG that immersed players in the rich tapestry of ancient Roman mythology. Developed by Heatwave Interactive (after being resurrected from Perpetual Entertainment), the game cast players as "Demigods"—children of both a god and a mortal—tasked with defending the Empire against the ancient Telchine gods.
The game was notable for its Squad-Based Minion System, which allowed players to command up to four AI companions simultaneously, and its Family Estate system, a precursor to modern player-housing mechanics. Despite its unique ideas, the game struggled with a small player base and was officially moved into "indefinite maintenance" in September 2012. The servers never fully returned, and the game was subsequently removed from Steam. As of 2026, the game remains a piece of "abandonware" history, with no official community-run servers currently active.
Minion Command System: Recruit and manage a squad of over 120 unique minions, ranging from centurions to mythological creatures, each with their own leveling path.
Divine Alignment: Choose a patron god (such as Jupiter, Mars, or Venus) to gain unique "Immortal Powers" and specific quest lines.
Family Estates: Rebuild and customize a massive Roman estate that served as your personal base of operations and power source.
Brutal Combat: Features a visceral combat engine with dramatic finishing moves and squad-based tactical maneuvers.
Mythological Bestiary: Face off against legendary Roman and Greek threats, including Cyclopes, Medusa, and Centaurs.
