Forspoken is a single-player open-world action RPG published by Square Enix and developed by its internal studio Luminous Productions. It launched on January 24, 2023 for PC and PlayStation 5. Frey Holland is mysteriously transported from New York City to Athia, a land once ruled by benevolent matriarchs called Tantas. A blight known as the Break has corrupted the land, turned animals into beasts and driven the Tantas mad. A sentient golden bracelet Frey nicknames Cuff gives her the power to fight back.
Gameplay centers on two systems. Combat uses a wide range of spells that you can tailor for fast, aggressive play or slower, tactical fights. Traversal relies on magic parkour that lets Frey scale walls, vault canyons and dash across open landscapes at speed. You explore four corrupted realms, take on monsters and work toward confrontations with each Tanta. Steam lists a broad set of accessibility options, including adjustable difficulty and text size.
Forspoken suits players who enjoy Square Enix action RPGs such as Final Fantasy XVI and want a magic-focused open world. A Forspoken CD key is a cost-effective way to buy it, and the prequel story DLC In Tanta We Trust is sold separately or in the Digital Deluxe Edition.
