Dungeon Keeper Gold is a real-time strategy and dungeon management game developed by Bullfrog Productions and published by Electronic Arts. The original game launched in 1997, and this Gold version was released on Steam on March 7, 2024 for Windows PCs.

The twist is that you play the villain. You dig out tunnels, claim territory and build rooms such as lairs, hatcheries and training areas to attract creatures, then keep them fed, paid and in line.

Your dungeon must survive waves of heroes who arrive to loot it. You defend it with traps, doors, corridors and spells, and you can use the Hand of Evil to pick up, drop and slap your minions to keep them working.

The game is known for its dark humor and its variety of monsters, from imps that dig your tunnels to stronger creatures that fight for you. A possession spell even lets you see the dungeon through a creature's eyes. This Steam release is single-player.

Creatures have personalities and needs. They demand pay day, food and somewhere to sleep, and unhappy minions may fight each other or leave your dungeon entirely. Campaign levels push you across a peaceful land, corrupting one region at a time, and some maps also pit you against rival keepers fighting for the same underground territory. Managing your economy and your monsters' moods is as important as fighting off heroes.

It suits fans of classic PC strategy, management sims and anyone curious about the game that inspired modern evil-overlord titles.
