Donkey Kong Country Returns HD is a side-scrolling platformer published by Nintendo and developed by Forever Entertainment. It was released on January 16, 2025 for Nintendo Switch. It is an HD version of the 2010 Wii game originally made by Retro Studios.

The Tiki Tak Tribe has hypnotized the animals of Donkey Kong Island and stolen Donkey Kong's banana hoard. You run, jump, roll, and ground-pound through jungles, beaches, caves, and factories to get it back.

Levels are packed with secrets. You can collect K-O-N-G letters and puzzle pieces, ride mine carts and rocket barrels, and spend banana coins at Cranky Kong's shop on extra lives and helpful items. Diddy Kong rides on Donkey Kong's back in single-player and lets you hover with his jetpack.

Two players can team up in local co-op, with one as Donkey Kong and the other as Diddy Kong. The HD version also includes the extra levels first added in the Nintendo 3DS version, plus a Modern Mode with extra hearts for a gentler challenge.

The game suits platformer fans who enjoy tight, demanding level design, as well as families who want a couch co-op adventure. Newcomers can start here without playing earlier Donkey Kong Country games.
