Developed by Warm Lamp Games and published by Alawar Entertainment (2016), Beholder puts you in a world where privacy is dead and the State controls every aspect of life. Your primary job is to watch, listen, and profile. You must sneak into apartments while tenants are away to plant cameras and search their belongings. You are a small cog in a massive machine, but your decisions have weight—you can choose to be a loyal servant of the regime, a compassionate neighbor who covers for others, or a ruthless blackmailer who exploits secrets to provide for your own family. The game is heavily inspired by George Orwell’s 1984 and games like Papers, Please.

Yes, but it is intentionally difficult. Helping tenants often requires significant amounts of money that you could otherwise spend on your family's survival. The game is designed to make "perfect" moral runs feel like a desperate struggle.

If a tenant returns while you are inside, or if you are caught by a security camera you didn't disable, you can be fined or even arrested, which usually leads to a Game Over.

Yes. Beholder 2 moves the setting from an apartment building to the Central Ministry, and Beholder 3 returns to the landlord mechanic but with expanded social and political influence.

Blackmailing is the most effective (and unethical) way to get cash. If you find evidence of a tenant breaking a minor law (like owning prohibited items), you can send them a blackmail letter instead of reporting them to the State.

On PC, the game has partial controller support. It is mostly designed for point-and-click mouse movement, but it plays well on the Steam Deck with trackpad or analog stick mapping.
