Developed by Warm Lamp Games and published by Alawar Entertainment (2016), Beholder puts you in a world where privacy is dead and the State controls every aspect of life. Your primary job is to watch, listen, and profile. You must sneak into apartments while tenants are away to plant cameras and search their belongings. You are a small cog in a massive machine, but your decisions have weight—you can choose to be a loyal servant of the regime, a compassionate neighbor who covers for others, or a ruthless blackmailer who exploits secrets to provide for your own family. The game is heavily inspired by George Orwell’s 1984 and games like Papers, Please.
Totalitarian Surveillance: Use listening devices, peep through keyholes, and conduct illegal searches to gather information on your tenants.
Moral Ambiguity: Every decision affects the story. Reporting a father might make you the State's favorite, but it leaves his children orphaned.
Family Management: Your wife and children have their own needs and quests. The pressure to earn money for medicine or school often forces you into unethical choices.
Multiple Endings: Your cumulative choices lead to vastly different outcomes for Carl, his family, and the State.
Stylized Dystopian Art: A distinct, silhouette-based art style that emphasizes the shadowy, oppressive atmosphere of the setting.
Blissful Sleep DLC: Often bundled with the main game, this expansion adds a prequel story centered around the previous landlord, Hector.
