Banished is a city-building and survival strategy game developed and published by Shining Rock Software.
In Banished, players guide a group of exiled travelers who have chosen to start a new life in an untamed wilderness. The settlers arrive with only the clothes on their backs and a cart of supplies, leaving players responsible for building homes, gathering resources, and creating a sustainable settlement.
Unlike many city-builders, Banished focuses heavily on survival rather than expansion. Citizens must be fed, housed, educated, and kept healthy through changing seasons, natural disasters, and resource shortages. Poor planning can lead to starvation, disease outbreaks, or population collapse, making every decision important.
The game features a dynamic economy where all resources are physically produced, transported, and consumed by citizens. Players must balance forestry, farming, hunting, mining, trading, and infrastructure development while adapting to environmental challenges. Banished is praised for its relaxing atmosphere, strategic depth, and rewarding survival-focused gameplay.
