Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag – Freedom Cry on Xbox One is a single-player story expansion that continues the tale of Adewale, the Jackdaw's former quartermaster who rose from slavery to become a trained Assassin. Set 15 years after the events of Black Flag, Adewale finds himself shipwrecked near Saint-Domingue without weapons or a crew, and is gradually drawn into the fight against slavers and colonial oppression as he assembles a new crew and reclaims his purpose.
On Xbox One specifically, Freedom Cry is sold exclusively as DLC content, meaning it requires the base game Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag to be installed and owned first. Ubisoft confirmed in 2014 that while the standalone version launched on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PC, it was never brought to Xbox 360 or Xbox One. Buyers comparing keys for this title on Xbox should therefore only look for the DLC listing tied to Black Flag, since no standalone Xbox product exists for this content.
