Apex Legends uses a multi-currency economy to separate free-to-play progression from premium purchases, ensuring that all gameplay-affecting content remains accessible without spending money. The five currencies are Apex Coins (premium, real-money), Crafting Metals (earned via packs/Battle Pass for crafting cosmetics), Legend Tokens (earned by leveling up to unlock Legends and recolors), Heirloom Shards (ultra-rare drops from Apex Packs for Heirloom sets), and Exotic Shards (new in Season 24 for crafting Exotic-quality weapon skins).

Apex Coins are the primary premium currency, bought with real money or earned in small amounts through the Battle Pass, and are required for purchasing the seasonal Battle Pass, featured cosmetics in the rotating store, and Apex Packs. Crafting Metals function as the "free" crafting currency, obtained from Apex Packs (including duplicate conversion) and Battle Pass rewards, and can be spent to directly craft most cosmetic items (skins, finishers, banners, charms) at set costs by rarity. Legend Tokens are earned by gaining XP and leveling up (600 per level from level 4 onward), and are used mainly to unlock new Legends (12,000 each) and buy Legendary skin recolors or reroll daily challenges. Heirloom Shards are extremely rare (guaranteed within 500 Apex Packs if not dropped earlier) and unlock Heirloom melee weapons and associated cosmetics; Exotic Shards, introduced in Season 24, are earned via the Battle Pass and used to craft Exotic weapon skins at the Replicator.
