Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition - The Last Chieftains is a downloadable expansion for the real-time strategy game Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition. It was developed by Forgotten Empires with partner studios, published by Xbox Game Studios, and released on February 17, 2026 for PC and the console versions of the game.
The expansion moves the action to medieval South America. It adds three playable civilizations, the Mapuche, the Muisca, and the Tupi, each with its own units, technologies, and bonuses that change how you build an economy and fight. New architecture sets and unit designs give the factions a distinct look on the battlefield.
Three new campaigns tell stories drawn from the history and folklore of these peoples. Missions take place across dense jungles and varied landscapes, mixing large battles with scenarios that focus on alliances, raids, and survival.
The new civilizations are also available in skirmish and multiplayer matches. Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition supports online competitive play, co-op against the AI, and cross-platform multiplayer, so the new factions slot straight into ranked and custom games.
The Last Chieftains suits players who already own Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition and want fresh civilizations, new strategic options, and more single-player story content.
