A Game About Digging A Hole is a breakout indie hit developed by DoubleBee (with Cyberwave) and published by rokaplay and Drillhounds. Created as a passion project using Unreal Engine 5, this minimalist survival-exploration game task players with a deceptively simple premise: dig as massive a hole as humanly possible in the backyard of a newly purchased house.
The core gameplay centers around a highly satisfying, loop-driven economy inspired by retro classics like Motherload. Equipped with basic tools, you clear out soil block-by-block, uncovering valuable, randomly spawning buried treasures and rare mineral ores. You can drag your haul back up to the surface barn to sell for cash, which can then be funneled directly into major gear upgrades—including heavier shovels, high-powered drills, larger inventory packs, and advanced exploration tech. As you delve further past the crust, the soil hardens, forcing you to think strategically about your paths back to the surface while unearthing a strange, hidden mystery buried deep beneath the dirt.
